At the root of the word analysis is the notion of “taking apart”. The careful craft in analysis leads to understanding, seeing, and the ability to synthesize and imagine. One of the most important abilities of the architect is to understand the physical world through analytical means. The act of analysis could be considered a backward creative process. The artifact exists and the outcome of analysis offers new and unforeseen insights.
I studied Paul Rudolph's Yale Art and Architecture building in depth, developing drawings and other forums of representation—both analog and digital—to explore and uncover architectural principles through the articulation of different ideas, arguments or theses. This series is about intellectual and formal rigor, as well as a sense of discovery and experimentation.
